Hope Movement

Hope Melbourne Christian Church is part of the Hope of God movement. The Hope of God movement consists of churches that share the vision of fulfilling the Great Commission, together with the rest of the Body of Christ, by building strong biblical people to plant strong biblical churches in every nation of the world. The number of churches in the movement is increasing rapidly. Currently, there are over 2000 churches around the world in the continents of North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

The Hope of God movement started with the Hope of Bangkok church in late 1981. Today, it is the fastest growing Christian movement in Thailand, a land that has been known to be highly gospel-resistant and where 95% of the population professes to Buddhism and 4% to Islam. The Hope of Bangkok church is now the largest church in Thailand.

Hope of God in Australia started in Melbourne in 1990 and by 2001 has 9 churches covering most states in Australia.

The Mission

In the Hope of God family, we believe in the vision God has given us. We will do everything possible to fulfill this vision which is summarized in Jesus' Great Commission: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Mt 28:19-20)

We believe this commission has been given to every believer in the body of Christ. Therefore, in obedience to the Lord Jesus our vision is to plant strong and Blibical churches all over the world that will make disciples of every nation who will wholeheartedly obey everything in the Bible. Because Christ has given us this command and because He has equipped us to complete it (Acts1:8), we believe that it is possible to see this vision fulfilled in our lifetime.

Our efforts are thus focus on reaching our nation and eventually the entire world. We want to bring the good news to every person who has not heard of the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our vision encompasses every nation, district and people group on earth.

Our vision of reaching the world is not to the exclusion of other brothers and sisters in the Lord who strive towards the same goal. We recognize that as Christians respond to Christ's call with all teir energy, time and resources, God's Kingdom will indeed come and His will de done on the earth as it is done in heaven. Therefore, we acknowledge and accept our Christian brothers and sisters throught the world in other familiues who also strive to fulfill the Christ's commission.

Another characteristic of the Hope of God family of churches is our desire to give holistic care to its members and those outside the church. IN his letter to a friend, John, the Apostles, write,: I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." Our desire is the same.

Besides building local churches, the Hope of God family has the goal of building Christian communities that will reveal Christ fully and completely. Therefore, we recognise the importance of developing social instituition, such as hospitals, schools, colleges, universities, shopping facilities, radio stations and nursing homes, which will help demonstrate Christianity as it is preached in a community setting where other people can see Christ's character revealed.

HGI

Hope Melbourne is part of HGI (Hope Of God International), a discipleship making and church planting movement.

The Hope of God family of churches, started in obedience to the Great Commission laid down by our Lord Jesus Christ. Members are encouraged to personalize this God-given vision of fulfilling the Great Commission by planting strong biblical churches.

These efforts usually start small with the belief that God will provide all the needs of the church planting team. There is a total dependence on God. Yet, at the same time, members are exhorted to do their utmost, moving in faith in tandem with God. Like the mustard seed spoken of in one of Jesus' parables, such small church-starts grow into many-membered churches touching many lives.

Members are constantly involved and trained in personal evangelism, follow-up, regular one-on-one discipling, care groups, leadership training, expository preaching, spontaneous worship, spiritual gifts and miracles, social concern and mercy ministry.

As a result of such adherence to biblical principles, more than 1,000 churches have been planted in over 30 countries in the world from a modest single start in 1981. We believe that we must make every effort possible in multiplying strong biblical churches. Only then can the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ be fulfilled. The task is too great for one church or even one family of churches alone but as Christians work together towards this task, Christ and His teachings will be proclaimed throughout the whole earth. The Hope of God family of churches, on its part, is committed to fulfil His great task.

We welcome you to visit our website again, or be our guest to worship together at any of our churches.
